
Folk-Rock star, Gordon Lightfoot, has died at the age of 84.

According to his publicist, Victoria Lord, Gordon passed away Monday evening (5/1) at a hospital near his hometown of Ontario, Canada where he’d been receiving medical treatment for undisclosed reasons.
Lightfoot, a 4-time GRAMMY nominee is best known for his hits like, “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”
Additionally, a number of artists including Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley, experienced success covering his songs.
During his lifetime, Gordon received numerous high-level awards including inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Canadian Music Hall of Fame as well as the Companion of the Order of Canada — the highest honor attainable for Canadian civilians.
“We have lost one of our greatest singer-songwriters,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said of Lightfoot’s death. “Gordon Lightfoot captured our country’s spirit in his music – and in doing so, he helped shape Canada’s soundscape.”
He continued, “May his music continue to inspire future generations, and may his legacy live on forever. To his family, friends, and many fans across the country and around the world: I’m keeping you in my thoughts at this difficult time.”
