In a tweet posted Tuesday morning, former President Barack Obama says it is time to reimagine policing and public safety.
Obama wrote on Twitter:
"Our hearts are heavy over yet another shooting of a Black man, Daunte Wright, at the hands of police. It’s important to conduct a full and transparent investigation, but this is also a reminder of just how badly we need to reimagine policing and public safety in this country."
Daunte Wright was shot Sunday during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center. Body cam footage released Monday show that the officer seems to intend to grab her taser instead of her firearm prior to shooting Wright.

The former president goes on to say in his statement, "The fact that this could happen even as the city of Minneapolis is going through the trial of Derek Chauvin in the heart-wrenching murder of George Floyd indicates not just how important it is to conduct a full and transparent investigation, but also just how badly we need to reimagine policing and public safety in this country."
Monday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called on the called on the state legislature to hold hearings on police reform to prevent future tragedies.
Walz said, “It’s devastating and heart-breaking that we’re here again to address the death of a young Black man with an interaction with police.”
