While the packaging says the toys are recommended for kids, one adult allegedly decided to use their Legos differently. That's according to the FBI, which recovered a fully constructed Lego set of the U.S. Capitol from the home of an alleged participant in the Jan. 6 insurrection, per The Smoking Gun.
Robert Morss owned the 1,032-piece Lego set before the U.S. Capitol building was stormed, and the set was seized along with other items that appeared to match what Morss alleged involvement on the day of the riot.
Some took to Twitter with their own Lego sets tweeting at the FBI jokingly about their own involvement.
According to the documents The Smoking Gun acquired, the FBI recovered a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag, a neck gaiter, a military utility bag, a black tourniquet, and military uniforms. The documents also said that he had three different firearms, including a handgun, a shotgun, and a rifle.
Last month Morss, a Glenshaw, Pennsylvania resident, was arrested and charged with federal offenses including assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder, and robbery of personal property of the United States.
The FBI has been cracking down on those present during the insurrection, having arrested more than 500 people and enlisting the use of “armchair” detectives to identify people from a database of 900 photos collected from the day.
According to court documents, law enforcement recovered a notebook from Morss’ car that included a section titled “Step by Step to Create Hometown Militia,” with equipment and names written in it. The notebook also contained steps for the militia, including battle drills, ambush tactics, and formations.
Other notes mentioned bringing body armor and assault rifles.
There was also an affidavit submitted by an FBI agent in support of charging Morss that said he joined rioters who were directly confronting officers guarding the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace doors.
Current documents do not indicate whether the Lego set was used to prepare for his alleged storming of the capitol.
