SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – This is one lucky pup.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the Gilroy Police Foundation shared details of a curious story involving a lost Bay Area dog that recently turned up in "a small village in Germany." A neighbor of the German resident who found the dog contacted the group through Facebook, according to the post.
They went pictures of the pup, along with a photo of his green tags with "Gilroy, CA" etched in.

After some investigation, the owner was located.
But how did the dog – which looks to be a Golden Retriever – end up in Germany? Officials with the Gilroy Police Foundation shared their guess: "We believe the dog belongs to a U.S. military person. The airbase is only 41 miles from where the dog was found. Most likely someone who lives off base."
It wasn't immediately clear when the dog ended up in the unusual location.
"Moral of the story, good idea to license your dog," officials added. "You never know where they might turn up."
