Even though Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan is a Republican, he claims that he didn’t vote for the party’s Senate candidate in the state, Herschel Walker. Why?

One reason was Donald Trump, who backed Walker in the election. In recent days, this has become an even stronger reason.

“I think there’s a couple of easy pieces of low-laying fruit,” Duncan, who serves with Gov. Brian Kemp, said in a recent CNN interview. “One was pushback on Donald Trump and the whole fake election narrative.”

Kemp has also moved away from Trump supporters in the Republican party by fighting Trump’s claims about election fraud regarding the 2020 presidential election, according to POLITICO. Still, he was able to beat Democrat challenger Stacey Abrams to retain his seat last month.

“Secondly, when Nick Fuentes did what he did with Donald Trump and he took the dinner meeting? Pushback on that,” Duncan added.

Fuentes, a white supremacist, visited Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate Thanksgiving week. He was a guest of musician Kanye West, who has made several anti-semitic comments in recent months.

Trump backed candidates did not have an impressive run in the November midterm elections. Overall, the GOP did not gain as many seats as expected.

Now, Walker – a pro-life candidate who is courting scandals related to abortions he is allegedly paid for – is again facing off against incumbent Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock in the runoff next week. So far, polls show them in a dead heat.

“I showed up to vote this morning, I was one of those folks who got in line and spent about an hour waiting,” said Duncan. “And you know, it was the most disappointing ballot I’ve ever stared at in my entire life, since I started voting.

Ultimately, Duncan walked out of the booth without voting for anyone in the Senate race, he told CNN.

This week, the Republican National Committee said it plans to conduct a review of party goals after the runoff election. In addition to Duncan, some billionaire GOP donors have also started to back away from Trump, indicating that his influence in the party may be waning.
