Most can agree that First Lady Melania Trump is a rare sight at the White House, as she's most often in New York or at Mar-a-Lago, but her latest public interaction with her husband raised eyebrows, and not for reasons you may expect.
Melania Trump was at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix with Donald Trump amid rumors involving Natalie Hart, a White House aide whose obsessive interaction with the president have recently come to light. And while Harp was behind Melania in photo and video ops, she was cropped out of the footage.
Why is Harp suddenly a divisive figure? First off, she represents the president in communication with overseas leaders, works by his side seven days a week and was one of the few people he took with him when he fled an Iranian threat on a catering truck to a different airplane.
And then letters sent to Trump by Harp, whose role is special assistant to the president, were published by Daily Beast. They include lines like "I want things to always be right between us. I also know I’ve been distracted all week (forgetting to eat throughout the days, and even forgetting to sleep, and only catching a couple hours at a time.) ...
"With all my heart, Natalie.”
Inside the Beltway, the 35-year-old California native is known as the "human printer,” because she tails the president, 80, with a portable printer.
Harp's unusually close to the Oval Office role became the subject of a political attack line delivered by Jon Ossoff, the Democratic senator from Georgia. He said Trump "doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the emir of Qatar.”
In addition to not including Harp in photo of the event, Melania walked away from her husband when Harp approached. The Trumps had what many considered to be a tense exchange in the stands.
And when media footage was released of the moment Trump raised the green flag to start the race, the footage was cropped so close viewers couldn't see that Harp was in the row behind Melania. Wide angle photos and video did show her there.

When asked about Harp, the White House gave this statement to the New York Times.
“Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary who will soon be leaving her post, said.
