With the NATO summit now wrapped up and world leaders returning to their nations, Russian President Vladimir Putin seems to have taken another blow, as allies of Ukraine continue to offer their support.

While most member nations of NATO agree that Ukraine should receive their support, the country isn’t joining the alliance just yet, and “The On Deadline Podcast” team worked to find out more about why that is.

New efforts were announced during the summit while discussing how to expand the alliance and boost defense spending to supply Ukraine with the arms it needs to defend itself against Russia.

After more than a year of resistance, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan finally caved and hashed out a deal that will allow Sweden into NATO, just the latest country that borders Russia to join.

The other country that shares a border with Russia and recently joined is Finland, and U.S. President Joe Biden made a stop in the new member country after the summit wrapped up Wednesday. In a speech given on Wednesday, Biden addressed the accomplishments of the summit, sharing that NATO was “more united than ever in its history.”

“We will not waver,” Biden said. “Our commitment to Ukraine will not weaken. We will stand for liberty and freedom today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes.”
