A woman called Indiana State Police Sunday, claiming that she had been kidnapped.
When officers from the Madison Police Department eventually located her near Clifty Falls State Park, they saw someone toss a small item from the vehicle she was in.
Authorities determined that the object was a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. They also determined that the woman, identified as 34-year-old Brandi R. Cuneo of Lawrenceburg, Ind., hadn’t been kidnapped at all.
State police contacted the Madison department to let them know about the cell phone kidnapping call. During the call, Cuneo said she was in a car traveling through Hanover, Ind., to Madison, Ind.
“Patrolman Trent Smith with MPD located the vehicle near the North Entrance to Clifty Falls State Park,” said the department. “A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle.”
As the vehicle pulled over, officers saw the pipe get tossed.
Through the traffic stop, Cuneo and the driver of the vehicle – identified as 34-year-old Andrew M. Hoegeman of Osgood, Ind. – were detained for further investigation. A search of the vehicle revealed not just methamphetamine but fentanyl and marijuana as well. Some of the substances were divided into separate baggies.
Ultimately, Cuneo was arrested for false informing, a Class A misdemeanor; obstruction of justice, a level 6 felony, and possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony. Hoegeman, who had active arrest warrants of out Ripley County, Ind., was arrested for invasion of privacy, a level 6 felony; dealing methamphetamine, a level 4 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony; obstruction of justice, a level 6 felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
“All criminal charges are allegations, and both Brandy Cuneo and Andrew Hoegeman are presumed innocent unless otherwise proven guilty in a court of law,” said the Madison Police Department.
