As the Middle East conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, Americans’ view of Palestine appears to be softening, according to a new poll.

A majority of respondents still say they have more sympathy for Israelis than Palestinians, but that 54% total is considerably lower than what was registered by Quinnipiac nearly two months ago.

An October 17 poll showed 61% admitting more sympathy for Israel. Only 13% of respondents in that poll had more sympathy for Palestine.

Further, young Americans have shown a huge shift in attitude toward Palestine with a majority saying they had more sympathy for Palestinians, up from 26% in the previous poll.

Likewise, numbers in favor of Israel among respondents aged 18-34 fell from 41% to 29% in the last two months.

When it comes to who is responsible for the fighting though, opinions are very favorable toward Israel with 72% of those surveyed saying they believe the terrorist organization Hamas, which is not an official representative of the Palestinian people, is more responsible for the violent conflict.
