Approximately 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks have been recalled after it was discovered there was a malfunction that caused the tailgate to open unexpectedly, leading to cargo potentially falling out.
Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced the worldwide recall that affects Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups with model years from 2019 to 2022.
The issue involved the tailgate striker plate not being lined up correctly. This prevents the tailgate from closing completely.
Most of the trucks that were recalled are in North America. Those affected should be taken to a dealership for inspection and adjustment if necessary.
Drivers unable to make it to a dealership are advised by Stellantis to secure cargo being carried in the bed of the truck.
The company shared in the recall that pickups with “multifunction tailgates,” the Ram 1500 Classic, and trucks with sensors to alert drivers of unsecured tailgates are not affected by the malfunction.
There have not been any injuries or crashes caused by the recall, but 800 warranty claims have already been made.
