Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul may have saved a fellow Senator's life on Thursday.

Paul, who is a medical doctor, performed the Heimlich maneuver on Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst when she began choking on food during a Senate lunch, according to multiple reports.

Aides say Ernst is fine, and she was even joking about the experience on social media.

"Can't help but choke on the woke policies Dems are forcing down our throats. Thanks, Dr. @RandPaul!" she posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Paul also got some praise from his colleagues over the incident.

"Thank God we have doctors in Congress. So grateful that @SenRandPaul was able to intervene and that @SenJoniErnst is okay," Iowa Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) posted on X.

Often one of Paul's adversaries, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) even offered some gratitude.

"God bless Rand Paul," Graham told The Washington Post. "I never thought I'd say that."

It's not clear what, exactly, Ernst choked on. However, reports indicate she was hosting the Senate GOP's Thursday luncheon -- which is provided by a different member each week and typically features food from their home state. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley posted about the meal shortly beforehand, which appeared to include porkchops, corn au gratin and coleslaw.
