A mother who lost her child in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is speaking out following a recent shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas — the second at the campus in just over a year.
Nicole Hockley, who lost her 6-year-old son Dylan in the 2012 massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, said security measures alone are not enough to prevent school violence. Her comments came in response to reports that the suspect in the Wilmer-Hutchins High School shooting may have been let into the building by someone inside.
She said students and adults need to recognize warning signs and how to get help when they see concerning behavior. HERE ARE the ten signs that Sandy Hook parents and experts say to look out for. The list includes a kid who suddenly withdraws from friends and family, having access to weapons, recruiting a co-conspirator, talk of harming themselves, and more.
Hockley co-founded Sandy Hook Promise, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing school shootings and other forms of youth violence through education and intervention programs.
While no fatalities were reported in this week’s incident at Wilmer-Hutchins, several individuals were injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
