Shooter opens fire at Atlanta hospital, killing one and injuring three

Updated 2:35 p.m. EST — Police shared that the suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting is 24-year-old Deion Patterson.

Original story — Police in Atlanta have shared that a shooter has opened fire at Northside Hospital Medical Midtown and are ordering anyone in the area to stay away.

Police shared in an update that no shots have been fired since the initial incident unfolded. They say they're aware of four shooting victims, three who have been transported for treatment, and one who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Atlanta Police Department shared photos of the believed shooter, adding that the “suspect is still at large.”

“Anyone in the area is asked to secure their building and shelter in place. Anyone not in the area is asked to stay away,” the department shared on social media.

WSB-TV reported that hundreds of heavily armed officers were on the scene near West Peachtree St, but no arrests have been made as of yet.

Several people were taken out of the hospital on stretchers, the station shared. Police have also shut down traffic around the area as the search for the shooter continues.

"The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached," police shared.
