A shooting at an outdoor festival in eastern Oklahoma on Sunday morning resulted in the death of one person and seven more being injured, according to authorities.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation shared that two juveniles were among those shot at the Memorial Day event taking place in Taft, 10 miles southeast of Tulsa.

One witness shared with the agency that an argument broke out just after midnight, followed by gunfire, leaving event-goers frantic, the bureau reported.

Sylvia Wilson, the owner of Taft's Boots Cafe, shared that when the shots first started, they thought they were fireworks.

"We heard a lot of shots and we thought it was firecrackers at first," Wilson said to the Associated Press. "Then people start running and ducking. And we were yelling at everyone ... 'Get down! Get down!"

The event in Taft saw approximately 1,500 people in attendance, well over the town's population, which is just a few hundred.

The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office shared that it had deputies in the area who began offering aid and assistance when the shooting began, according to OBSI.

The condition of those injured is currently unknown, and what caused the shooting has not yet been confirmed.
