Survey: Here's what moms really want for Mother's Day

The time has come to honor and celebrate our mothers and other motherly figures in our lives -- but what do you get the woman who has everything for Mother's Day?

YouGov, a public opinion company, surveyed 500 American mothers to determine exactly what they want to receive as gifts and how they'd like to spend time on their special day.

The most popular physical gifts among mothers are flowers, with a third (31%) of moms saying they'd like to receive them, according to the survey. That's followed by something handmade by the giver (29%), gift cards (28%) and greeting cards (24%), a personalized gift (22%) and chocolates or sweets (20%). The least popular gifts moms want to receive are clothing (11%), beauty products or cosmetics (11%), photos of family/myself (16%) and jewelry (17%).

The survey shows moms are also down to be gifted experiences for Mother's Day, with the highest proportion saying they would love to be taken out for dinner and drinks (36%), followed by a wellness or spa experience (18%) and a vacation (13%).

Just 13% of moms said they don't want to receive any gifts, according to the survey.

As for who mom wants to spend the day with, 60% want to be with their children, 31% want to see their own mothers and 10% want to spend time with their friends. The survey shows other moms just want some "me time," with 20% saying they want to spend time on their own and 10% saying they want kids-free time with a romantic partner.

Of course, she wants to have some fun, too. Going out to eat or drink was the most popular activity picked by moms taking the survey (42%), followed by staying home (32%) and going out for some other activity (20%). Going for a spa treatment would make 17% of moms happy, as would simply doing nothing at all (17%), according to the survey.
