Texas teacher charged with sexual assault of male student over the summer

A Carroll ISD teacher was arrested on Monday for allegedly having an “inappropriate relationship” with a former student of hers who was underage over the summer, authorities shared.

Carroll Middle School teacher Angela Barnes, 45, allegedly had an affair with a teen boy off campus between June and July of this year, according to the Keller Police Department and school officials.

A probe into the alleged relationship was launched in late September and determined that Barnes was having an alleged sexual relationship with the minor, police shared.

Barnes has since been booked in Keller Regional Jail and charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between educator and student.

WFAA reported that the Carroll Independent School District quickly placed Barnes on leave after they became aware of the allegations from police.

“The District was made aware the alleged offense took place off-campus over the summer within the jurisdiction of the Keller Police Department,” the school system said. “Based on the information we have received, no incidents occurred on CISD campuses. CISD is working in collaboration with Keller Police and Child Protective Services as they investigate the allegations.”

The district is located in the city of Southlake, a suburb of the Dallas area.

The Keller Police Department shared that, at this time, it does not believe there are any more alleged victims of Barnes.

Those with information are asked to come forward and contact the police department.
