Whether you're eating it out of convenience or because a late night craving hit, fast-food is downright delicious. Of course, that doesn't make it good for you.
A new analysis has uncovered the unhealthiest menu items from the most popular fast-food restaurants in the US.
To compile the list, experts at Pricelisto.com identified the 47 most popular fast-food restaurants and examined the calorie content of each item on each menu to determine which are the unhealthiest.
Although the ranking excludes sharing, meals, combos, catering and family items, the amount of calories in some of the items is astonishing. For reference, 2,000 calories a day is used as a general guide for nutrition advice, according to the FDA.
"Fast-food has become a staple of American culture, renowned for its convenience and affordability. On the one hand, this is good as it provides access to meals at affordable prices, making food accessible to a wide range of people," a spokesperson for Pricelisto said in a statement. "However, the high levels of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats in fast-food can contribute to poor dietary habits and health issues such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes if consumed too regularly."
Hardee's tops the list for the unhealthiest item with its Fried Chicken 12 Piece and 6 Biscuits, which clocks in at an eye-watering 6,490 calories.
Taking second place is Papa John's Philly Cheesesteak XL Stuffed Crust, with 4,590 calories.
Third in the rankings is Moe's Nachos, which could have up to 4,334 calories if you add all the possible toppings.
Little Caesars' Detroit Style 5 Meat Feast Deep Dish Specialty Pizza takes fourth place, with 3,500 calories.
Rounding out the top five is Pizza Hut's Loaded Pepperoni Feast Large Cheesy Bites Pizza, with 3,153 calories.
Despite being three of the most popular fast-food restaurants, McDonald's, Burger King and KFC didn't make the top ten.
