Former President Donald Trump rang in his new year with shots at former Rep. Liz Cheney and Special Counsel Jack Smith as he tried to bolster his claim that he should have immunity from the many charges brought against him.

Trump made his remarks in a post on his social media platform Truth Social. He didn't offer much support for his argument for immunity, but he did say that Cheney “suffers from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), and was defeated for Congress by the largest margin for a sitting Congressman or Congresswoman in the history of our Country…”

He then went on to attack Smith, who has been tasked with overseeing two different federal cases against Trump, including one over his handling of classified documents after his term and another over his involvement on Jan. 6, 2021, and his efforts to overturn the election.

Trump called Smith “deranged” in the post after Smith rebuffed a previous remark he made that Trump should have received immunity in the case over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“…The ridiculous Deranged Jack Smith case on Immunity, which the most respected legal minds in the Country say I am fully entitled to, is now completely compromised and should be thrown out and terminated, JUST LIKE THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS DID TO THE EVIDENCE.”

The comments from Trump followed another post where he claimed he was “entitled” to presidential immunity and the subject of a “witch hunt.”

“I wasn’t campaigning, the Election was over. I was doing my duty as President to expose and further investigate a Rigged and Stolen Election. It was my obligation to do so, and the proof found is voluminous and irrefutable. Therefore, among other reasons, of course I am entitled to IMMUNITY,” Trump said last month.
