Would you ever consider being buried with a pet?
When he passed away this summer, French film star Alain Delon had a request – to be buried with his Belgian Malinois, Loubo. However, the dog was still alive, and his family didn’t follow through with Delon’s wishes.
It may seem gruesome, but Paul Koudounaris, author of “Faithful Unto Death: Pet cemeteries, animal graves, and eternal devotion” said Delon isn’t the only person who has tried to take their beloved pet to the grave. He joined “Something Offbeat” to talk all about what we don’t know about pet cemeteries.
For example, why those who attempt to bring their pets along in their coffins likely won’t be successful.
“In cemeteries intended for humans… it’s just a tradition that goes all the way back to the old churchyard cemeteries where you had to be a member of the faith, of the congregation to be buried in the churchyard,” he explained. “And animals weren’t.
Still, there are some loopholes. Listen to the full episode here to find out what they are.
