In a tribute to actor Paul Reubens, who passed away last week at age 70, a statue at the Cabazon Dinosaurs has been painted to resemble his iconic character Pee-wee Herman.
The roadside attraction off the 10 in Riverside County has been featured in multiple films, but the giant dinosaurs are most well-known for appearing in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in 1985.
On Tuesday, Cabazon Dinosaurs memorialized that connection by unveiling a new coat of paint on their famous Mr. Rex statue. The dinosaur is now wearing Pee-wee’s characteristic gray suit and red bowtie.
“We hope this bigger-than-life tribute to Pee-wee will contribute to the celebration of Paul’s life,” owner and operator Denise Kanter told KNX News. “We can say with confidence that Pee-wee was loved by so many. Every single day numerous customers tell us, ‘We love Pee-wee!’”
So, plan a pitstop for Pee-wee next time you’re heading out to Palm Springs. The exhibit will run through October.
