Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald was in attendance in Washington D.C. yesterday for the Presidential Inauguration of Joe Biden.

"It was interesting to be that close and to feel the weight of what has happened over not just the last four years, but literally the last two weeks," Fitzgerald said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show on Thursday. "You could feel the excitement and the energy and the democracy and the patriotism, in that setting."

With 25,000 National Guard troops nearby, Fitzgerald was not concerned about his safety.

"Going into the facility, you go through multiple metal detectors. I mean it's probably as secure as anything could be at that point," Fitzgerald adds.

As for the future, Fitzgerald believes the new administration will provide our region with everything we need.

"One of the big issues is going to be transportation, infrastructure - and by infrastructure, I'm talking about broadband, water lines, sewer lines - things we really need here in Southwestern Pennsylvania as older communities," Fitzgerald explains.
