
(Newsradio 1020 KDKA) Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey announced Monday morning, he will not seek re-election in 2022 and will not run for governor.
It was reported earlier that the Republican would not run and Toomey confirmed that on Monday.
Toomey said the decision is not political and is personal so he can spend more time with his family.
Toomey adds he will join the private sector but will not make a decision on what is next as he still has two years left in the Senate.
The Senator thanked his wife and family for the sacrifices they have made so he can serve.
He also pointed out he is also stepping away because he is a supporter of term limits.
With two years left in the Senate, Toomey said he is hopeful it will continue to be Republican controlled and that he looking forward to working with President Trump, hoping he will be re-elected.
Toomey has been a Senator for the state of Pennsylvania since 2011 and is currently serving his second term and is set to last until 2022.
