Will Pennsylvania legalize adult-recreational cannabis during this year's legislative session?
Squirrel Hill Democratic State Representative Dan Frankel says recent legislation introduced in the Senate by Republican Senator Dan Laughlin, creating a Cannabis Control Board, faces an uncertain future because the controlling GOP doesn't appear to be of one mind on the topic.
“They’re first ones to talk about the state budget which they would claim spending money out of reserves and Covid money and not dealing with, what they claim, is a structural deficit, the fact of the matter is they won’t deal with creating a new revenue stream,” said Rep. Frankel.
Frankel thinks the state could generate three quarters of a billion dollars in new revenue to the state each year, not to mention taxing and regulating skill games, otherwise leaving a billion dollars that could be collected on the table.
