PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Democratic incumbent Josh Shapiro has been reelected as governor of Pennsylvania, defeating his Republican opponent, state treasurer Stacy Garrity.
“I’ve worked incredibly hard in this election to make sure people understood what I would do in a second term,” Shapiro said Tuesday morning after casting his ballot at Rydal West Elementary School. The Associated Press called the race about a minute after polls closed on Tuesday. Shapiro had already racked in over 200,000 votes; Garrity had about 58,000.
“I will again ask lawmakers to codify my executive order on data centers. The strictest guardrails in the nation,” he said.
Shapiro has now won four statewide races, carries a reputation as a disciplined messenger and powerhouse fundraiser.
He has grown into a national figure after he made Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' shortlist for vice presidential running mates in 2024 and is a potential White House contender for the party in 2028.
