The U.S. Supreme Court Issues Opinions
WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 23: The U.S. Supreme Court Building is seen through a temporary security fence on June 23, 2022 in Washington, DC. Decisions are expected in nine more cases before the end of the Court's current session, with some activists waiting on a highly-anticipated ruling on the potential overturning of Roe vs Wade.

Abortion will remain legal in Pennsylvania, but the decision raises the stakes for this November's election.

Governor Tom Wolf called the Supreme Court decision a dark day for reproductive rights, and maintained abortion access in Pennsylvania will remain legal so long as he is in office.

This November, the state will select a new governor.

The candidates - democrat Josh Shapiro and republican Doug Mastriano - differ greatly on the topic.

In a statement today, Shapiro committed to keeping abortion legal in Pennsylvania, should he be elected, calling today's ruling devastating.

Mastriano has yet to comment publicly today, but in a statement last month reacted positively to the news of the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The current state senator introduced a bill last year that would ban abortion after detection of a heartbeat.

As of 11:24 a.m., Mastriano and Oz have not responded directly on the SCOTUS' decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
