PA Governor Josh Shapiro announces re-election bid

He'll kick off his campaign in Pittsburgh

Governor Josh Shapiro is launching a re-election campaign, releasing this morning a campaign video about his first term.

Shapiro has a campaign event scheduled this afternoon in Pittsburgh and another tonight in Philadelphia.

In the video, Governor Josh Shapiro uses blunt language to underscore his message, saying his administration has delivered real results across Pennsylvania, from protecting personal freedoms to moving past long-standing political gridlock.

“We’ve gotten s**t done all across our commonwealth to make a real difference in people’s lives,” Shapiro said, echoing his adult-language-filled motto.

His campaign says the reelection effort will center on protecting freedoms, responding in times of crisis, and continuing to bring people together statewide.

Shapiro will be running against the GOP nominee after this spring’s primary.

State Treasurer Stacy Garrity is the current top candidate in the polls to face the Democrat.

Shapiro has a current campaign war chest of $30 million, the most for a gubernatorial candidate in Pennsylvania’ history.

Shapiro was strongly considered as the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee in 2024 before Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was picked by Kamala Harris.

Shapiro is also considered to be a possible Democratic candidate for the presidency in 2028 by many political experts.

Before being elected governor in a 2022 landslide, Shapiro was the state's Attorney General.
