Pennsylvania lawmakers have approved the CROWN Act, banning discrimination based on hair type or style.
House Bill 439, passed the Senate on Wednesday with overwhelming bipartisan support, after clearing the House earlier this year.
The PA CROWN Act, legislation, introduced by State Rep. La’Tasha Mayes and House Speaker Joanna McClinton, makes it illegal to discriminate against someone based on hair type, texture, or hairstyle.
Mayes called it a victory for students, workers, and Pennsylvanians who’ve faced unfair treatment, saying it will create a more equitable state for all.
The bill now goes to the desk of Governor Josh Shapiro, who can sign it into law, putting Pennsylvania alongside other states that have outlawed hair discrimination.
