The Pittsburgh Pirates are reportedly one of the teams trying to acquire New York Mets reliever Luke Weaver before the deadline.

The Athletic reports that, along with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pirates are “showing strong interest” in Weaver, who currently has a 1.88 ERA over 41 games and 43 innings pitched for the Mets.

Weaver has a 1.9 WAR with 44 strike outs, 11 walks and 10 runs given up.

Pirates insider Jason Mackey believes the team could get Weaver in a package that would include Pirates #3 prospect Murf Gray, third baseman with the Altoona Curve.

Weaver is under contract n 2027 for $11 million and is owed another $2.4 million after the trade deadline.

The addition of the 32-year-old would instantly bolster the Pirates bullpen, but with rumors of the Brewers also interested in Weaver, it likely means it won’t be cheap to acquire him.
