The Pennsylvania Department of Health is confirming that a fifth person has died due to measles.
Health officials say that an unvaccinated person in Lancaster County, that tested positive for the disease has died.
40 more measles cases reported in Pennsylvania since Monday with the number of cases this year at 943 across 39 counties.
Locally, zero cases have still been reported in Allegheny County. Several weeks ago, UPMC reported its first case of someone testing positive for measles at one of its facilities in Pittsburgh, that that patient is not a resident of Allegheny County (which is why the case doesn’t show up on the Health Department’s dashboard.)
So far, none involving residents of Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, or Washington Counties. But Westmoreland County reported its second case last week. Armstrong County is also reporting two cases.
For this year's outbreak, the State Health Department says the number of hospitalizations remains at 176.
