Pennsylvania AG continues to crack down on robocalls

Chances are you've received a call from someone trying to rip you off or sell you something.

Now, states are cracking down on the companies allowing the calls to go through.

Attorney General Dave Sunday says he and his counterparts have begun cracking down on phone providers who are ignoring robocall rules.

The FCC has been asking the companies involved to help track the calls, but haven't responded and haven't submitted a plan on how they'll curb the calls.

Seven have already been booted from the FCC's Robocall Mitigation Databases, meaning calls originating from them can't go through to other providers.

Sunday says callers should also sign up for the do not call list, and read the fine print when entering a contest or doing a survey to make sure you're not really agreeing to telemarketing calls.

“Robocalls are not just an annoyance, many of them are illegal. Robocalls are often a tool used by scammers to take advantage of the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians,” Attorney General Sunday said. “Illegal robocalls will not be tolerated in the Commonwealth, and I am proud to stand with my colleagues to announce action that we expect will result in federal investigations, and, ultimately, fewer of these calls.”
