Pennsylvania Game Commission asking for help to locate turkey flocks

The Pennsylvania Game Commission wants your help in locating flocks of turkeys.

Surely, you've seen them before, and the game commission says it’s part of their effort to gather information on ongoing studies.

How will this happen? The Game Commission will trap the turkeys, then place a leg band on the males.

Game Commission wild turkey biologist Mary Jo Casalena, “We’re looking to see what percentage of those leg bands are harvested during the spring hunting season, it’s like a mark and recapture study.

GPS transmitters will also be attached on a sample of turkeys, to help study turkey population and movement dynamics, disease prevalence and other aspects that may limit turkey populations.

You can report the flocks until March 15 by going to ww.pgc.pa.gov.
