Sheetz 'interested' in opening location in Limerick, PA…that's Wawa territory

A showdown between Pennsylvania’s top two convenience chains could be developing.

Altoona-based Sheetz says it is interested in opening a store in Limerick Township, Montgomery County.

The thing about Limerick Township is, it’s in the Philadelphia metro area…the home of Wawa.

It’s been a long-time battle between Western and Eastern Pennsylvanians, Sheetz or Wawa?

The two brands have, for the most part, stayed out of towns where the other is operating.

"Sheetz can confirm it is interested in building a store at the intersection of Ridge Pike and Swamp Pike but it is too early in the process to provide further details,” Nick Ruffner, Public Affairs Manager for Sheetz tells KDKA Radio.

Wawa has a store nearby on West Ridge Pike.

If Sheetz does open a location in Limerick, the friendly competition could get fierce!

The first Wawa opened in 1964 in Polson, near Philadelphia.

Sheetz began in 1952 in Altoona, where its headquarters is still located today.

Both chains are famous for their food menu, coffee and more.
