Senator Pat Toomey was in town talking infrastructure with local union and industry leaders.

At the local Steamfitters union offices in Beechview, a forum with Senator Toomey focused heavily on Joe Biden's infrastructure bill.

Toomey was critical of certain parts of the bill, believing it's too broad but said he and some other republicans will be willing to meet the president in the middle.

"I'm not interested in reinventing the word and encompassing everything that the government would like to do. And the second thing I'm not interested in is ruining the economy with a big tax increase," he said.

"Let's not damage the economy with a tax increase and let's not launch a whole bunch of new programs that have nothing to do with infrastructure. Where the common ground is, is actual infrastructure. It's the roads and bridges and highways and airports and the things that we all understand are infrastructure and there is bi-partisan support," said Toomey.

Toomey said he expects to be part of a group meeting with Biden on the infrastructure bill next week.
