A Somali runner competing at the World University Games in China has ran what is considered the “slowest-ever” time in a 100-meter race, and questions are being raised.

Nasra Ali Abukar finished the race at 21.81 seconds and just moments after the race began, you could see she was out of her league.

It has been claimed that the Somali Athletics vice-president picked her to run because Abukar is her niece.

Watching the race, it becomes clear that Abukar has had little, if any experience in competitive racing.

She gets dusted by all the other runners with the first-place winner’s time of 11.58.
The next-to-last place runner finished with a time of 13.15.

Somalia is a county with plenty of talented runners, so it does seem odd that Abukar was the best they could do in the 100m.

There are now calls for an investigation into selecting her over other runners, in what appears to be a possible case of nepotism.

I won’t speculate on how Abukar is feeling after going viral worldwide for being so slow, but I know I would be embarrassed.
