Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Kraus going to court to fight efforts to impose term limits on himself and other County officials.
He's filed a complaint in Common Pleas Court over an effort to put term limits on the ballot this fall as a referendum question through a change to Allegheny County's Home Rule Charter. Kraus' complaint says the state Constitution deliberately removed term limits for the Sheriff back in 1945. The lawsuit argues the County is overstepping its home rule powers. The referendum question would also cap the County Executive...Council members...the DA..Treasurer and Controller to a maximum of three terms.
