PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Panthers freshman guard Bub Carrington named the ACC Rookie of the Week for a fourth time after averaging 18 points, five rebounds and 3.5 assists in games against North Carolina and Louisville.

In the win against the Cardinals, Carrington had 16 points and five assists, playing 39:59 with ONE turnover.

“One of the biggest things you can’t teach is feel,” said Pitt head coach Jeff Capel. “He has a great feel for the game. Teams have thrown a lot of different looks at him, it is impressive that he’s been able to watch tape and learn. When there is a timeout we can talk to him about what they are trying to do and trying to make those adjustments.”

“He’s a very quick learner. He wants to learn and wants to get better.”

“Him being smart has a lot to do with his success,” said senior Blake Hinson. “Just knowing who to pass to. When to be aggressive, when not to. Being one of our top scorers and being a point guard takes a whole lot of thinking. He’s great at that.”

Only two other Pitt players have ever won conference Rookie of the Week honors as many times. Sean Miller won it four times in the Big East in 1987-88 and Chris Taft won it six times in the Big East in 2003-04.

Carrington is one of just six players in the NCAA averaging at least 14.5 points, five rebounds and five assists per game.

Panthers host Duke Tuesday night at 9p with Panthers pregame with Bill Hillgrove, Curtis Aiken and Cale Berger beginning at 8:30p on 93.7 The Fan.
