Art Rooney's cousin trashes idea of paying T.J. Watt big money

A member of the Rooney family went on a podcast and because it’s July 10, it’s news.

Steelers’ owner Art Rooney II’s cousin Patrick Rooney Jr., who has now ownership ties to the organization, stays it would be silly to pay outside linebacker T.J. Watt.

“T.J.’s a great player, a great Steelers, insane to pay him anything right now . . . he’s 31-years-old,” Rooney said on the PBKC (Palm Beach Kennel Club) podcast, a gambling show.

Because he is a member of the Rooney family his opinion holds weight, right?

As Adam Crowley put it on The Fan Morning Show, “I don’t know what to make of this . . . because I’ve got cousins that believe the Earth is flat.”

“This guy is the cousin of the owner and so I’m supposed to think, what? That’d they’re going to fight at Thanksgiving?” added Crowley.

Rooney also doesn’t believe the Steelers have any chance at completing in their own division this year.

“There’s been this narrative around the Steelers like, ‘We’re gonna go all in this year.’ What does that mean?” asked Rooney. “Do you think even if you had Aaron Rodgers from 10 years ago that you’re going to be able to compete with Joe Burrow and you’re gonna be able to compete with Lamar Jackson?”

The Podcast has since been deleted, but you can listen to Crowley and Dorin Dickerson talk about it above.
