The inaugural Hope Gas Backyard Basketball Classic with Pitt facing West Virginia and Duquesne taking on Robert Morris was announced Wednesday and is expected to bring thousands of fans to Pittsburgh for the doubleheader.
For Pitt and West Virginia, it will be the 193rd all-time meeting between the teams, with the Mountaineers leading the series 102-90.
It will also be the first time that Pitt is playing WVU at PPG Paints Arena.
“The Backyard Basketball Classic will be an exciting event that the whole city of Pittsburgh should rally around,” Pitt Director of Athletics C. Allen Greene said. “Headlining a doubleheader at PPG Paints Arena with the Backyard Brawl puts Pitt at the center of a marquee event that will surely turn into a memorable night for our fans and our city. Pittsburgh basketball fans deserve events like this and we’re excited to help spearhead it.”
Presale tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m., with general sales beginning September 25th through Ticketmaster.
