Joey Bart goes on IL with concussion, Endy Rodriguez called up

Pirates Catcher Joey Bart has been placed on the seven-day concussion injured list Wednesday and the team ended the rehab assignment for catcher Endy Rodriguez.

Bart was hit in the head by a backswing from Diamondback hitter Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the fourth inning Tuesday night.

Bart was on the Injured List for a time in April with a back injury.

Rodriguez had been rehabbing from a right hand laceration and has been on the IL since mid-April.

Rodriguez was hitting .178 over 15 games before his injury. In eight rehab games at Triple-A Indianapolis, he was hitting .154 (4-for-26) with two home runs and four RBI.

Henry Davis, who came in to replace Bart and helped begin the Pirates’ late comeback against Arizona, will likely be the starting catcher moving forward for the near future.

The former #1 overall draft pick has five hits in his last five games.
