Former Steelers running back and Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis says the Steelers have the pieces on offense to be successful but they don’t know who they are.
Is Bettis bashing Tomlin's offensive scheme?
Bettis was on the Colin Cowherd show earlier this week and spoke about the criticisms that Head Coach Mike Tomlin is facing.
“They’ve got a great tight end, they got two wide receivers, they got a running back, they got it all, they got a quarterback, but the question mark is what type of offense are we and it’s been a question mark for the last three years,” Bettis told Cowherd.
The PM Team discussed Bettis being critical of Tomlin and Poni and Mueller says they expected Bettis to be the type of person who would go to the mat for Tomlin, but no.
“I’m proud of Bettis for doing this,” said Poni. “It’s a big take,” added Mueller.
Bettis never played for Tomlin but the Super Bowl XL champion is still closely affiliated with the Steelers and Tomlin has had Bettis in to speak to his teams in the past.
So either Tomlin can’t coach offense or can’t find a competent offensive coach.
The issue with that is while team’s are investing in their offense, the Steelers are sticking with people like Matt Canada as offensive coordinator.
