PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Another big-time contract for a Steelers defensive player from the 2023 draft class, and it’s another player not currently listed as a starter.
Defensive tackle, sometimes nose, Keeanu Benton gets a four-year contract worth $72 million as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It makes him the highest paid defensive lineman in Steelers history.
The Steelers second round pick four years ago, Benton had his best season last year with 5.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, a forced fumble and 51 tackles in 17 starts. The 25-year-old was going into the final season of his rookie contract.
It seems only corner Joey Porter, Junior remains from the players who are expected, or at least are going to be offered, a new contract going into this season. Porter, Junior has not practiced for what is being termed ‘a back flare up’ on the first day of training camp.
Also, what will the reaction be from captain Cam Heyward who is currently paid $16.25 million this year and next.
