
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pitt football is going to stay within 60 miles of campus this year until October 11. A look at the Panthers schedule for 2025 that is backloaded with its two toughest opponents late in November.
August 30 Duquesne
· It’s the first football meeting since 1939. The Dukes led by Keystone Oaks HS and Westminster College graduate Jerry Schmitt who is 128-86 in 20 years on the Bluff.
September 6 Central Michigan
· Having played Eastern and Western Michigan during Pat Narduzzi’s tenure, it’s the first meeting against Central. Chippewas were 4-8 last year which included a win over San Diego State.
9-13 West Virginia
· Pitt has won 2 of the last 3 in the series, but it’s the return of Rich Rodriguez, his last game in Morgantown was the Pitt 13-9 upset in 2007
September 27 Louisville
· Cardinals are coming off a 9-win season, losing to Notre Dame and Miami by 7 and beating Clemson by a dozen. Louisville beat Pitt 37-9 last year.
October 4 Boston College
· Former Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien goes into his second season after a 34-23 win over Pitt in the final game of last year in Chestnut Hill
October 11 at Florida State
· First plane trip of the year and first time playing at FSU against former Pitt assistant Mike Norvell as the Seminoles are coming off a 2-10 season.
October 18 at Syracuse
· 3 Pick Sixes in the win at Acrisure Stadium last year, the Orange would go on to beat Miami and Washington State in a bowl game. Pitt is 44-33-3 in the series.
October 25 NC State
· They haven’t met since 2020 when NC State won 30-29 at Acrisure on a touchdown pass with 23 seconds left in a game that featured six lead changes
November 1 at Stanford
· The first football game in California since 1971, when the price of eggs was 53 cents a dozen. The Cardinal won 3 games last year (Louisville, Syracuse, Cal Poly)
November 15 Notre Dame
· The NCAA FBS runner-up after 14 wins, the Irish return to Pittsburgh for the first time in 5 years. ND has won 7 of the last 8 in the series.
November 22 at Georgia Tech
· Pitt has won 4 of the last 5, however the Yellow Jackets seemed to be close to turning a corner under head coach Brent Key. They were 7-6 including an 8-overtime loss to Georgia.
November 29 Miami
· Panthers broke a 4-game losing streak to the Hurricanes with a 42-16 win in Coral Gables in 2022. The last November Miami game at Pitt was when freshman Kenny Pickett beat the 2nd ranked Canes.
