PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Just under two weeks ago, the Steelers hosted Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones as part of their allotted 30 pre-draft visits. Jones had no indication then the Steelers would take him with the 14th overall pick. He just knew this.

“I felt like I was at home,” Jones said on a conference call Thursday night.

“I felt like I was at Georgia again. I felt like the energy was there. I felt like everything that was talked about was needed with me, the coaches, the whole organization. At the end of the day I was in love with the Steelers when I left and I became one. That’s the end of that story.”

And it’s the beginning of a new story and a new fit. It’s assumed he would play where he did his entire college career, at left tackle. He was Freshman All-SEC in his second year and started every game for the national championship team in 2022 and named First Team All-SEC. He said he would play either side with the Steelers, noting they only had three healthy tackles at Georgia, so he said he played right tackle every day in practice as part of a tackle rotation.

Jones said it means a lot to him the Steelers traded up to get him (moving up three spots with the Patriots). He doesn’t feel he’s reached his peak, but is a dog and that’s why the Steelers took him because all they pick are dogs (including Kenny Pickett and Najee Harris).

“I liked the Steelers a lot,” Jones said. “I rock with Coach Mike Tomlin a whole bunch. I feel like he understands me. I’m ready to get to it.”

Asked to describe his playing style he's bringing to the Steelers.

"Physical, fast and dominant"
