PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pitt head coach Jeff Capel said he and his coaching staff had a chance to see Bub Carrington play in person in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and said he was ‘terrific’. The league agrees.
Carrington named All-NBA Summer League Second Team after averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists over five games. He made 14 three-pointers while shooting 36% from three. Last year at this time he had recently enrolled at Pitt and now is coming off four double-figure scoring games and a double-double against other professional players.
“One of the things that has been really interesting is how comfortable he looks right away,” Pitt head coach Jeff Capel told 93.7 The Fan. “Normally, it takes a while for anyone when you make that leap from college to the NBA. It’s completely different, especially for an 18-year-old who has only really played the point guard position for one year.”
“I think he is going to be really good. It looks like he has grown, certainly has gotten stronger and bigger.”
Capel told 93.7 The Fan Carrington told him how much he misses his teammates and wishes he was still with the Panthers. The Pitt head coach chuckled saying he was just trying to make the coaches feel better because he’s sure Carrington likes the paycheck more in the NBA than what he got with Pitt.
Capel said Carrington, along with his Wizards summer league teammate Justin Champagnie, Blake Hinson and Mo Gueye were all planning on working out with the team soon in Pittsburgh.
