Speaking to reporters after the Adam Frazier deal that sent him to San Diego for three prospects was made official, Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington says there was a very strong interest from other teams in the second baseman.
Cherington says multiple teams inquired about Frazier with it coming down to three or four and more than one potential deal was good enough to move Frazier, but ultimately decided on San Diego.
“We felt yesterday we had all the information we were going to have from the teams that were interested in Adam. Didn’t feel like that was going to change. So we made the decision," Cherington said during a Zoom meeting on Monday.
Those players are infielder Tucupita Marcano, outfielder Jack Suwinski and right handed pitcher Michell Miliano.
Marcano will go to Triple-A Indianapolis, Suwinski to Double-A Altoona and Miliano to High-A Greensboro.
Cherington says that he has been “aware” of Marcano for a while and that “he’s a skilled player who’s always been really young for his levels, he’s young this year from Triple-A and has performed pretty well despite being pretty young everywhere he’s been.”
Cherington adds that Marcano has added power this season and is versatile in the field.
