Earlier this week, Aaron Rodgers said he plans on retiring after the end of this season.
That means the Steelers will definitely be looking for their next franchise quarterback during the draft next year in Pittsburgh.
So, who could be that next QB to lead the Steelers for the next decade or more?
The Fan Morning Show went over some of the names ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper and Matt Miller think will be the best available.
#1 Cade Klubnik – Clemson
“I thought he got a lot better last year throwing the ball,” said former Pitt QB Pat Bostick.
“He’s incredibly athletic, he’s going to be on one of the better teams Clemson’s had in the last five years.”
#2 Garrett Nussmeier – LSU
Nussmeier threw 29 touchdowns last year with 4,052 yards last year for the Tigers.
Bostick says that Klubnik and Nussmeier are the safest picks at #1 and #2 right now.
“If I’m going to put my rankings out right now, I’m going with the two guys at the top of the pecking order that I know have done it and can do it and that is Klubnik and that is Nussmeier.”
Bostick adds that Penn State’s Drew Allar may have the highest ceiling but he hasn’t proven it yet.
Also, Penn State isn’t known for its franchise quarterbacks, Clemson and LSU are known for producing franchise quarterbacks.
“I know people say it doesn’t matter . . . oh, it matters, it matters,” said Bostick.
Another name that Bostick has on his top five list is South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers.
Bostick’s top five rounds out with Indiana QB (transferring from Cal) Fernando Mendoza.
Dorin Dickerson says if he had to draft a quarterback tomorrow, it would be Drew Allar, but the great thing about college football, is the best QB is always “subject to change”.
