In addition to the injury setback third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes suffered, Derek Shelton announced that pitcher Chad Kuhl, who was off to a rough start especially in first innings, was placed on the Injured List with right shoulder discomfort.

Kuhl currently has a 6.22 ERA, with 16 walks in 15-and-two-thirds innings. Geoff Hartlieb was activated from the alternate site.

Dustin Fowler – batting .171 with 20 strikeouts in 46 plate appearances - became the second centerfielder to be DFA’d this week, following Anthony Alford who was hitting .058.

Veteran Todd Frazier is up from the alternate site and will be the DH Thursday afternoon, although there is a good chance he will play a decent amount at third base as long as Hayes is sidelined.

Shelton indicated that Bryan Reynolds will mostly play centerfield, at least for the time being.

Outfielder Jared Oliva, who is consider their minor league outfielder closest to the majors, has a left internal oblique strain and will be out for at least four weeks.
