If Adam Frazier doesn’t watch out, he’s going to find himself starting in the All-Star Game, no thanks to himself.

The Pirates’ second baseman, who was second behind Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies in the first phase of fan voting, is now leading after the second phase. Seems like everybody in Pittsburgh, and extended Pirate Nation, is jumping on the Frazier bandwagon. Everybody that is except for Frazier himself.

“I could but I haven’t, no,” answered Frazier when asked if he had voted for himself. “I’ll let somebody else take care of that.”

With another day before voting closes at noon Thursday, a lot of somebodies have been taking care of Frazier so the “Vote Fraze” craze spearheaded by the team’s Director of Baseball Communications Jim Trdinitch has taken hold.

“Yeah, Jimmy T’s got it going on with the Vote for Fraze,” Frazier smiled, “so I guess he’s leading the way but we also got Terry (Rodgers) and Kaitlyn (Kaufhold) doing a pretty unbelievable job, too.”

“Every time I open up my Instagram and see my face about 10-15 times so they’re getting after it,” Frazier laughed before returning to his familiar self-deprecating style. “I don’t really love the spotlight itself; I just try to take care of what I need to take care of.”

But if the current trend continues, Frazier will be smack-dab in the middle of the spotlight July 13th in Colorado. In fact, even if he doesn’t win the fan vote to start, Frazier is a lock to be selected.

Entering Wednesday, Frazier led all major league second basemen with a .326 average, .398 OBP, 98 hits and 24 doubles. He is third with an .860 OPS and 5th in slugging at .465. He has also become a perennial Gold Glove finalist.

This All-Star game is likely to be Frazier’s swan song as a Pirate since is also practically a lock to be the latest veteran to be traded for prospects. Of course, Frazier has seen that movie before.

“It’s been going on for 3 years now, I guess,” Frazier deadpanned, “I’ve learned to be where my feet are and have a good time playing baseball, trying to do everything I can do to win a game ever day so if it’s in a Pirate uniform or somewhere else it doesn’t really matter.”

But Pittsburgh fans can take pride that Frazier will still be in that Pirates uniform for the 2021 All-Star game.
