Voice of the Pirates Greg Brown doesn’t think we’ll be seeing right-handed pitcher Jared Jones any time soon.
Greg Brown says Jared Jones injury isn't good
“I think it’s going to be awhile before we see him,” Brown told The PM Team. “It’s not good, that’s just fact. I can’t sugar-coat that.”
Brown added that it’s “obvious” that Jones isn’t going to be around for a longer length of time.
What isn’t known yet is how long Jones will be out and if he will need surgery, like Tommy John.
There is a possibility the injury could linger early on into the season.
Pirates Manager Derek Shelton told reporters last week that Jones was experiencing elbow discomfort.
Jones went 6-8 last season over 22 starts with an ERA of 4.14. He missed his final start of Spring Training due to the injury.
Brown says all isn’t lost though, with young arms in the minor leagues close to making it to the MLB.
One scout that Browns trusts says prospect Bubba Chandler was “the best pitcher I’ve seen” in all of Spring Training.
Brown adds that he was originally surprised that Chandler wasn’t on the Pirates roster to start the season, but has heard they want to work on another pitch with the talented 22-year-old.
