PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was during the Panthers Insider Show with Pat Bostick that the deserved announcement came from Pitt Director of Athletics Heather Lyke on Saturday.
“I didn’t know if you had plans on September 13, 2024 because the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame committee have selected both you and Dick Groat, posthumously, to be inducted to this year’s Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame,” Lyke said to Bill Hillgrove as both were on the phone.
They are the first two non-Pitt athletes or coaches to be so honored.
“This is really humbling,” Hillgrove said on 93.7 The Fan. “I’ve been privileged to be around various awards, but this is right at the top. I’m bowled over.”
“We are beyond excited to celebrate you and Dick,” Lyke said. “The impact you have had but continue to have Bill in our programs and around our student athletics, staff and coaches and obviously the people who listen. How you tell our story is extraordinary. We are so grateful for all you have done and continue to do for Pitt athletics. We are just proud you are a part of us.”
“I can’t thank you enough Heather, this is really indeed a great honor,” Hillgrove said.
The soon-to-be Hall of Famer will be hosting the Dick Groat Celebrity Classic at Champion Lakes Golf Course in Ligonier benefitting the Dick Groat Endowed Fund at the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, May 11.
